Not limited by art history and the traditional way of painting, Linus Bill + Adrien Horni take a different approach in their art practices by using the principles of collage, photocopying, reproduction and cataloguing as a starting point for their paintings. Not only the technical approach is different than seen in art history, but also the creative process. By using catalogues as a starting point, the reversed process provides distance for contemplation and reflection for the artists during their process of art making.
It would be no surprise to learn that Linus Bill + Adrien Horni have a background in graphic design and photography. The exhibition’s title “Gemälde Linus + Adrien” refers to their book Gemälde 2013-2017 which is there latest publication (2015). Functioning as sort of anti-catalogues or an almanac of desires, their publications are bringing together a vast series potential paintings to be realized in the given period. Using reproduction techniques as digital enlarging and silkscreen for their paintings, Bill + Horni hover between analogue and digital processes of reproduction and production.
Linus Bill + Adrien Horni, both born 1982 in Switzerland have had recent solo exhibitions at Passerelle Centre d’art, Brest, FR (2016) Galerie Allen, Paris (2015) Nathalie Karg Gallery, NY, USA (2014) MJ Gallery Geneva, CH (2014) Istituto Svizzero, Milano, IT (2013) and the Swiss Institute, New York, USA (with Aubry/Broquard) (2012).
They have been included in group shows at Kunsthaus Langenthal, CH (2014) , Villa Bernasconi, CH (2014) Helmhaus, Zürich, CH (2013) and the Kunsthalle Bern, CH (2012)
They were awarded the Swiss Art Award in 2013 and are included in the public collections of the City of Bienne and the City of Zürich as well as many important private collections.
