Suchan Kinoshita wins the Belgian Art Prize 2025

Suchan Kinoshita has been awarded the BelgianArtPrize 2025 and, consequently, she has been  invited to create and present new work at Bozar. Her exhibition Renovation will be presented in the Antichambres of the Palace of Fine Arts Brussels from 24 April to 29 June 2025.

Jury Statement

‘Suchan Kinoshita is a unique artist who has built up a very extensive and complete body of work over decades. The jury's well-founded appreciation of her visual language is complemented by her role as an active and dedicated educator and mentor of subsequent generations of artists. Her sensitivity to time and space, and her continuous curiosity about life, contribute to works that are often process-based and make the visitor aware of the moment. That she combines deep conceptualism with recognisable, lived experiences, generosity and humour has earned the highest possible rating from the BAP25 jury.’

The jury that selected the 2025 laureate consisted of:
Carine Fol (curator Art in Public Space, City of Brussels)
Tina Gillen (artist)
Orlando Maaike Gouwenberg (director, Sonsbeek, Arnhem)

Helena Kritis (chief curator, Wiels, Brussels)
Kasia Redsisz (artistic director, KANAL-Centre Pompidou, Brussels)
Jacques Verhaegen (lawyer and art collector)
Zoé Whitley (director, Chisenhale Gallery, London)
After careful consideration, they unanimously and independently chose Suchan Kinochita as the BelgianArtPrize 2025 laureate.
